Oramed Pharmaceuticals signed an agreement with OnQ consulting, a Johannesburg-based contract research organization (CRO), to conduct Phase IIB trials on its oral insulin capsules. The 30 subjects will each receive the treatment for a period of 6 weeks. Here is the news release.

Merck Serono and its U.S. division EMD Serono, both part of Merck KGaA, announced an expansion of their American presence with an investment of $50 million at their Billerica facility, northwest of Boston. i3 acquired the Russian contract research organization Lege Artis. The addition of Moscow-based Lege Artis will provide i3 customers enhanced access to investigators in Russia and the neighboring states of the former Soviet Union. Lege Artis founder and CEO Tatjana Zwereva will lead the new Russian effort for i3, supported by a management team that includes Alexander Makarkov, a co-founder of her firm.
