MDS Pharma Services hired Ross Tonkens to provide medical oversight for Phase IIa clinical research activities and to direct the medical and clinical activities of its development and regulatory services. As VP of medical affairs, Tonkens will design clinical study protocols, provide medical consultation to clients, and chair the company’s development and regulatory services medical advisory board. Algorithme Pharma has followed up its acquisition of a clinical research center in Baltimore, Maryland, last month by taking over Simbec Research, an early-phase specialist in Wales, UK. No financial details were disclosed. “Given the considerable growth of our international clientele, it became necessary to acquire a location in Europe in order to better serve our fast-growing market once we had expanded to the United States,” explained president and CEO Louis Caillé.
Tessella’s getting ready to release an adaptive trials simulation program. It says it will be the first opportunity for most sponsor companies to interact directly with a Bayesian design from Berry Consultants. “The simulator is built around a flexible core design developed by the statistical consultancy and ready for deployment, out of the box,” says Tom Parke, head of clinical trials solutions at Tessella. “The software will need only a few minor tweaks by Berry Consultants before it can be used to make adaptations.” The adaptive trials simulator will launch commercially in the fourth quarter of 2008.
