A patient in a doomed London clinical trial has spoken to the media. Ryan Wilson says he will probably lose parts of his fingers and toes, which have turned black with gangrene. He could be in the hospital until September. Each volunteer in the trial received $3,500. The sponsor of the study, TeGenero AG of Germany, hired Parexel International of the U.S. to conduct the trial. The dose given to the patients was 1/500th as large as that given to animals, authorities in Britain say. But they’re still probing the trial and are expected to change the procedures to start research on human beings.
