The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) in India will encourage R&D in the field of bioinformatics and launch its own Supercomputer for Bioinformatics. The center will solely run bioinformatics applications. “The machine would have a computing capacity of 1.5 terraflops and would be integrated with the genome grid that is currently in progress,” says Rajendra Joshi, coordinator with bioinformatics group of CDAC.

Syngene has announced Dymension, its revolutionary software for the analysis of 2D protein gels, which has been installed at Oklahoma State University (OSU) to analyze arthropod protein profiles. According to the company, the Dymension software installed at OSU is currently faster than any 2D protein gel analysis software on the market and can analyze a typical 2D gel image in seconds rather than minutes. It has a spot-finding algorithm, which can provide spot detection, resulting in minimal post editing, thus saving hours using other software.
