United BioSource bought BioCor today for an undisclosed amount. The decision is the latest in a series of acquisitions by the Bethesda, MD company after raising $150 million from investors.

UBC blurs the line between a conventional contract research organization (CRO) and technology firm, offering both software and services. We wrote about UBC a few months ago in Bio-IT World, and that earlier story tells some of the company’s recent history.

United BioSource Corporation (UBC) today announced the acquisition of BioCor LLC, a Yardley, Pennsylvania-based provider of clinical data services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. BioCor delivers dedicated clinical data services and medical writing capabilities. . . .  The company’s clients are emerging and mid-sized biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies that capitalize on BioCor’s infrastructure and expertise to support complex regulatory submissions. BioCor’s 85 employees will join UBC’s new Biotechnology Solutions Group.

BioCor designs clinical studies and protocols, provides biostatistics support, and delivers an array of clinical data management, programming, and medical writing capabilities focused on supporting regulatory submissions in the United States and Europe. BioCor biostatisticians and medical writers will join UBC’s growing roster of scientific experts; about 50 percent of BioCor’s professional staff hold a doctorate in a scientific discipline.
