Quintiles has dropped its bid for ClinPhone, clearing the way for Parexel to buy the firm later this year. Here’s a newspaper story.
Forbes has its own take on the issue of whether the mechanism of action in the statin class of drugs is correctly understood. The hypothesis is that statins may owe their efficacy to anti-inflammatory properties, not cholesterol reduction. The story discusses Zetia and Zytorin and barely mentions Lipitor. Liquent and CRIX announced a partnership to offer complementary services around regulatory publishing and document sharing and management. “By teaming up with CRIX International, Liquent will be able to derive the full value of CRIX’s MyTeams while offering CRIX’s clients a full range of regulatory services, technology, and expertise,” said Rick Riegel, VP and General Manager of Liquent.
Bioanalytical Systems and Swiftwater announced an alliance. Swiftwater brings its extensive product development, regulatory, project management and auditing experience to work with Bioanalytical Systems’ contract research services.

Jasper Wireless announced that it has enabled Arrowhead Electronic Healthcare to provide a wireless electronic patient diary for patients participating in a 13-month drug trial being conducted in 20 countries. The diary is collecting data in a hemophilia study. “Our ediary solutions are designed to make compliance simpler for drug trial participants,” said Jeff Albrecht, president, Arrowhead Electronic Healthcare. “Wireless data transmission does more than connect remote machines and devices; it also extends and enhances the quality of life for human beings,” said Cindy Patterson, executive VP, sales and marketing at Jasper Wireless.
Chiltern announced it is supporting at least three electronic data capture systems, from ClinPhone, Medidata and Phase Forward. We can’t recall another contract research organization explicitly issuing a news release to detail such information. “Chiltern continues to be at the vanguard of EDC technology implementation,” said Jim Esinhart, VP global biometrics, “and we are pleased to be able to assist our sponsors with our detailed knowledge and experience in clinical trials combined with the flexibility to utilize two of the leading EDC systems in Medidata Rave and ClinPhone EDC.” Here’s the release.
