Advanstar Communications, the publisher of the Applied Clinical Trials magazine, announces the agenda of the 14th annual Applied Clinical Trials European Summit & Networking Forum 2007. The conference will be developed by a select Advisory Board comprising of experienced practitioners and will include topics delivered through a series of seminars, plenary sessions and interactive workshops. The conference will take place at Sofitel Berlin Schweizerhof, Germany and begin October 29, 2007.

WHO will be extending its clinical trial registry platform to include national trial registries in China and India. This will allow scientists to track local research activities and meet global standards for transparency. Margaret Chan, director-general of WHO, said, “The addition of these two clinical trial registers is a milestone in a growing international movement for more transparency and accountability in research involving people. This development will contribute to improving the ethical conduct of and public trust in clinical trials, which are vital for testing new life-saving treatments.”

Pharm-Olam International, a multinational CRO to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, appointed Sean Alan F. X. Reade as the vice president of global regulatory affairs. Sean Alan comes with an experience of 25 years in the pharma industry. His most recent appointments include director of regulatory affairs for PPD, and vice president of regulatory affairs at UCB/Celltech. He has also worked for Maxim Pharmaceuticals, Aronex Pharmaceuticals, Boehringer Ingelheim, and SmithKline.

Next Generation Clinical Research, a contact research organization, appointed Cheryl L. Ray as a scientific advisor of the company. Cheryl Ray is the founder and president of Madison Institute of Neurological Disorders and specializes in the treatment of neurological disorders with a special interest in multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, pain management, acupuncture and innovative treatment modalities. Laura Douglass, president and CEO of Next Generation says, ”We are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Ray join us as a scientific advisor. Her diverse knowledge and expertise in neurology will be invaluable to Next Generation. Given the depth and breadth of Dr. Ray’s experience, her appointment is especially timely as we expand our clinical trial expertise into more diverse areas of neurology and related areas such as pain.”

Coley Pharmaceuticals Group, a biopharmaceutical company discovering and developing drug candidates, announces its second quarter result for 2007 and six months ended June 30, 2007. The company recorded revenues worth $15.4 million in Q2 2007 as compared to $4.9 million in the same period of 2006. R&D expenses dropped by approximately $2 million, primarily due to a reduction in clinical trial and drug development expenses associated with the suspension of the ACTILON program.
