Quintiles will use software from Cerner in an effort to minimize data transcription errors in late phase trials. Said Mark Hoffman, a VP at Cerner: “The Cerner Discover late phase platform reduces the time required to start late phase studies, provides sites with an easy-to-use system for compiling data and expedites reporting of valuable data back to Quintiles, sponsors and regulators.” Here's a release.

DecisionView will offer its patient recruitment simulation software in a software-as-a-service (SAAS) modality. As CEO Jim Scullion explains: "With the launch of this new offering, companies can leverage the planning and forecasting capabilities of StudyOptimizer in a shorter time frame, even on a single trial." Elite medical journal editors have come up with a new set of forms and rules to be sure they are aware of authors' conflicts of interests. "Our goal is to make the process of disclosure uniform and easy; the new form should eliminate the need to reformat disclosure information for specific journals," the editors say in a statement. The fake name of a hypothetical investigator in the sample form could be an indication of how seriously the issue is being taken in academic publishing: Kermit the Frog.

Electronic data capture firm Nextrials updated its system to version 3. There's a new user interface and the ability to see data from multiple projects. "Prism's ad hoc reporting feature has been a very useful tool for our company," said Debey Marti, senior director of clinical and regulatory data management and reporting at GlobeImmune. "Prism's enhanced export capabilities are much more user-friendly, and allow us to review and monitor project data across multiple trials." Here's a news release.

Microsoft and T-Mobile now say they may be able to recover some lost data after all. The two firms have been embarrassed by the loss of data for thousands of people using the Sidekick smart phones. The companies have not publicly said which firm caused the glitch. Microsoft purchased a company called "Danger" that had developed a mobile phone synchronization technology.

Kendle has appointed a new head of patient recruitment strategy. John Needham formerly ran his own consultancy and worked at JNJ. He also served as co-chair of a Drug Information Association (DIA) committee for patient recruitment. He will report to Melanie Bruno. Here's the release.
