John Tomera joined WorldCare Clinical (WCC) as director of regulatory affairs and associate medical director. Tomera will be responsible for the management of all quality assurance and regulatory affairs operations. He will also be responsible for providing medical expertise to WCC project teams and acting as WCC’s liaison to its network of medical consultants at Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of Chicago Medical Center. “John is a seasoned clinical trials professional who brings a wealth of clinical operations and regulatory affairs expertise, and we couldn’t be more pleased to have him join our team,” said president Rick Taranto. Clinilabs appointed Howard Greenberg as the new senior medical director of clinical pharmacology. “We are pleased to welcome Greenberg to the Clinilabs’ newly expanded clinical pharmacology unit (CPU),” stated Gary Zammit, president and CEO of Clinilabs. “We are confident that Greenberg will add to our expertise in early-phase drug development, and broaden the capabilities of our CPU, enhancing our ability to provide outstanding service to our clients.”
AstraZeneca sold its AstraZeneca Biotech Laboratory in Sweden to Recipharm. Recipharm will lease the ABL from AstraZeneca for an initial period of 12 years. AstraZeneca will retain a significant minority stake in the new company, in addition to entering into a supply arrangement for Phase I and Phase II material. According to Jan Lundberg, AstraZeneca executive VP, “By divesting the facility, we are able to realize value from the assets while preserving jobs for the vast majority of the skilled and experienced workers. In turn, Recipharm gains a state-of the-art laboratory, which is ideally suited to their strategic needs.”

etrials and Peak 10 announced a three-year extension agreement of etrials’ fully-managed, dedicated virtual IT environment at Peak 10’s facility in Raleigh, North Carolina. “As we continue to experience growth in terms of the number of clinical studies we deploy, the volume of critical data in those studies, and increasingly global scale in which clinical trials are being managed, optimizing our system utilization was a priority and virtualization was the solution,” said Chuck Piccirillo, etrials’ VP of technology. “For etrials and our customers, clinical data integrity is of utmost importance, which is why we are continuing to partner with Peak 10 to ensure, together, we provide the highest levels of data integrity and achieve the highest availability possible.”
