VirtualScopics appears to be winning some major deals in clinical trials imaging. In October, the firm announced a $1.4 million contract with MediciNova. Now it has $1.7 million deal from an unnamed client studying a biomarker and a therapeutic agent. The Rochester, NY based VirtualScopics specializes in quantitative magnetic resonance imaging, offering software for the analysis of such scans. Clinical trials are a major application for the company.

Here’s an excerpt from its November news release:

“VirtualScopics’ image analysis can identify small changes in soft tissue and bone, which can provide information on drug effect and disease progression much earlier than standard x-ray joint space measurements. As part of the agreement, VirtualScopics will train, manage and collect MRI data from sites located throughout Europe and the United States. ‘The relationship with this important client has grown steadily during the last four years. We have moved from providing image analysis on preclinical to Phase 0 method studies to this very large international trial. Impacting the treatment of osteoarthritis, a very painful and debilitating disease, has been a goal for VirtualScopics since its founding,’ said Rosemary Shull, director of business development at VirtualScopics.”
